Meg's Choices: 5 movies to awaken the inner chef in you

A good food film is quite challenging to make compared to rom-coms and horror films. It should have a good plot to come across and food should be the main topic that brings the whole story rather than a girl and a boy with not-so-much of a pinch of chemistry between them. But as cliché as we may be, some of us just want to curl up in our beds, go on Netflix with a popcorn on hand and say, " I want to eat that food", hence, the beginning of our journey as a start-up chef.

With all that being said, here's the top 5 films that will either make you hungry or make you want to cook something delicious!

1. Ratatouille (2007)

This movie is a childhood favorite of many kids and adults alike. The main plot of the film revolves around a rat (Remy), who is interested in cooking. He gets separated from his family because of a storm and it leads to of all things, of him ending up in the destination of his dreams in Paris: a top culinary destination where Michelin-Star restaurants can be found. Remy's dream accidentally led him to Linguini, a garbage boy at a top-rated restaurant, and there they begin their journey of making it through the top by surpassing Anton Ego, an egoistic food critic where every one who dreams of becoming a top chef has to be approved by him.

2. Julie & Julia (2009)

Caught up with her job, Julie Powell discovers Julia Child's cookbook "Mastering the Art of French Cooking", where she embarks on a journey to finish the 524 recipes in a whole year. The film is intertwined with Julie's challenging attempt of stepping into Julia's life and how Julia conquered French cuisine with passion, effort and a whole lotta butter.

3. The Hundred-Foot Journey

The Hundred-Foot Journey is a tale of food, culture, and love in between. It all started when the Kadams went to Europe in search of a new beginning where they found an abandoned building across a French restaurant; soon they bought it and called "Maison Mumbai". The movie centered between the rivalry of Mallory and Hassan, wherein we see the beauty of classic French cuisines and the beauty and wonder it brings when Hassan decided to mix in Indian spices to the French Cuisine - Fusion.

4. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

There's adventure, romance, a monkey, and food! What more can you ask for? This animated movie is a fun-filled adventure where the citizens of swallow falls are constantly eating sardines. Flint, the main character/aspiring scientist, discovers the FLDSMDFR - a device where water can turn into any food. Things turned out so great for the island until things take a dark turn and its up to Flint, Sam, and Steve the Monkey to save the day.

5. No Reservations

A cliché romantic-comedy plot and food as the main topic, No reservations is a movie about two chefs that became rivals and then... fall in love. Kate is the head chef at a trendy restaurant. After an unfaithful incident with her sister, Kate's niece has no choice to adopt Zoe and it also led to Kate hiring a sous chef.
